About Primary-Standard Service

To ensure the proper domain functioning it is necessary that not less than two DNS-servers answer the domain-related requests.

DNS-server, where the full primary information about a zone (domain) is stored, is a Primary DNS-server for that zone; other DNS-servers are Secondary, if they get full zone information from a primary DNS-server or another secondary DNS-server.

RU-CENTER offers the Primary-Standard service to its customers. In the process of providing the service RU-CENTER adjusts one of its DNS-servers (ns3.nic.ru) as the primary for the customer's domain name:

Name ns3.nic.ru
IP address 194.85.61.20
Location Moscow, MSK-IX technological ground at the territory of Russian Scientific Center "Kurchatov Institute" (MSK-IX traffic exchange point is located there as well (Moscow Internet Exchange)).
Connectivity   — connection to MSK-IX (100 Mb/sec)
— connection to MAP network (Moscow Access Point — RIPN) (100 Mb/sec)

The customer will be presented with an opportunity to enter records of the types SOA, NS, MX, A, CNAME, PTR, SRV, TXT into the zone independently within the framework of the service. You can become familiar with the detailed description of different types of these records and their meaning in RFC-1035, RFC-2782.

In the process of transferring the Primary-Standard service from one RU-CENTER Service Agreement to another all the records, entered into the zone manually, are being deleted. If you want to save the records, you should make a copy of the zone file in advance and after transferring the service to another Service Agreement you should restore the data by means of DNS-Master zone file editor (the link "Additional features", the section "Loading a zone file from your computer").

You may order the Primary-Standard service for:

  1. a direct zone (domain)
    you should specify a full domain name in the process of ordering the service, for example:
    test.ru, test.msk.ru etc.

    don't put "www" in front of the domain name

  2. a reverse zone
    you should specify a full domain name (reverse zone) in the process of ordering the service, for example:
    1.0.127.in-addr.arpa

You can't order the Primary-Standard service:

  1. for a domain name, located in a domain, which is one or several levels higher, and for which any of the services Primary-Standard, Primary-Auto or DNS support within the hosting service is active, and that service is being provided to another RU-CENTER customer.
  2. for a domain of general use (GEOGRAPHICAL or GENERIC type).

Editing the zone file is made by means of zone files editor "DNS-Master":

"DNS-Master" zone file editor features:

  • allows making changes in the zone file on your own;
  • checks the correctness of single records as well as a totality of records;
  • makes it possible to return to any version of the zone files which were saved earlier;
  • allows loading the zone from a file, located on your computer;
  • allows avoiding mistakes which could arise in the process of simultaneous editing of the zone file by several professionals;
  • logs access to zone file.

Cost of the services is 600 RUB annually (with taxes). You may order the service for domain names from any zones, including domain names, not registered by RU-CENTER.
