IP Addresses of DNS Servers in IPv6 Format

From January 13, 2011 IP addresses of DNS servers for domains registered by RU-CENTER in TLDs and geodomains can be specified in IPv6 format. The IPv4 option is retained.

IPv6 is a new version of IP protocol that allows to solve the problem of lacking IP addresses. In IPv6 the length of each IP address is 128 bits, which makes the amount of accessible identifiers practically unlimited. Being a pioneer in Internet the IPv4 protocol contains 32-bit addresses (four 8-bit digits separated by dots).

At present moment the network contains about 50 mln unassigned IPv4 addresses. The new version of IPv6 protocol was developed to solve ranging and security problems detected during IPv4 use and to enhance capabilities of up-to-date network devices and applications. Though IPv4 resources will run out in less than one year, IPv6 transfer process is extremely little. To speed up IPv6 implementation, a number of major internet-resources, among which are Google, YouTube, Akamai, Yahoo! and Facebook, plan to participate in World IPv6 Day to take place June 8, 2011. On this day all participants are given an  opportunity to activate IPv6 on their web sites within 24 hours.
